New batch of UCCI student consultants report for work

February 15, 2010 – Three final year business students enrolled in UCCI’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management course are animated about working with local business Shiloh Lifestyle Services this semester. Over the next 10 weeks Karima Taylor, John Surdeen and Byron Clarke will be “student consultants” working to assist the company achieve specific operational objectives. The students hope to gain valuable real-life experience that will complement their classroom knowledge and the business owner looks forward to getting outside assistance and sound recommendations that can be successfully implemented.
Shiloh Lifestyle Services, owned by Annice Sambula, provides products, training and services that promote wellness and healthy immune systems in individuals and groups. Examples of services range from life coaching, talk therapy, hydrotherapy, sun therapy, juicing, tips on diet and exercise to the product side which involves the sale of nutritional supplements. The company also offers a Residential Weight Management programme, a new and innovative approach to obesity.
A collaborative effort between the Department of Commerce and Investment (formerly CIIB) and the University and sponsored by Cayman National Bank, the Student Consulting Programme is a 10 week course open to UCCI business students enrolled in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management. The interaction between students and business owner is a combination of in person visits, phone discussions and e-mail exchanges. An end of term report detailing the students’ business analysis and recommendations is the final output.
