Trade & Business License - Checklist
The following documentation must be submitted with an application for the grant of a Trade & Business Licence.
Where the applicant is an individual:
- Application form duly completed.
- Filing fee of CI$75.00
- Licence fee as determined from the Schedule of Fees. To download a copy of the schedule, please click here . Note: the fees change periodically and applicants should inquire with the Trade & Business Licensing Board Secretariat to confirm the current applicable fee).
- Proof that the applicant is Caymanian (eg copy of birth certificate, Caymanian Status certificate or acknowledgement letter confirming possession of Caymanian Status).
- Cover letter giving details of the proposed business.
Applications by Companies:
- Application form duly completed.
- Filing fee of CI$75.00

- Cover letter giving details of the proposed business.
- Certificate of incorporation
- Memorandum and Articles of Association
- Return of Shareholdings
- Register of Directors, Officers and Members
- Proof that at least 60% of the shareholders and at least 60% of the directors of the company are Caymanian.
Due diligence requirements
With respect to all non-Caymanian Directors/Members/Officers of the business,
- Character reference from a person who is not related to, and who has known, the person concerned for at least three years.
- Financial reference from a bank or other similar institution (eg brokerage) where the person concerned has maintained an account for not less than three years.
- Police clearance certificate from the place where the person concerned has lived for the previous six months. If the individual is from a country where such a certificate is not available the Board is to be advised and it will make its own background enquiries;
- Copy of the picture page of the individual's passport.
Approvals/Inspections
- Approval from Department of Environmental Health (where necessary, e.g. restaurateur, beauty salons, tattoo artists, barber shops etc.)
- Approval from the Public Service Commission or Head of Department if the applicant is a Civil Servant. Note: this approval must be provided annually.
- Approval from Planning Department (in cases where the proposed business is to be conducted from a residential location)
- Approval from the Strata Committee/Landlord (in cases where the proposed business is to be conducted from a Strata Unit/Apartment).
- Copy of the lease agreement if the proposed business is to be conducted in a commercial location.
